Semi-permanent makeup is a new technique where pigment is applied to the dermal layer of your skin. Approximately a millimetre beneath the surface. The result is a long lasting colour resembling perfectly applied makeup.
This procedure is also known as permanent makeup (in the US), micropigmentation or makeup tattooing. They're all the same thing.
During an initial consultation we'll discuss your desired semi-permanent makeup colours and look. I'll then measure your facial features and 'draw on' a non-permanent test to ensure you'll like the results. Once you've agreed on the colour and shape, I'll begin your treatment using a sterile needle grouping.
Once completed, you will be provided with aftercare advice and healing balm to protect your skin. You may experience some gentle swelling and redness after treatment but this will subside within 24-48 hours.
The appointment itself will last up 2.5 hours. You'll then return 4-6 weeks later for a second appointment to top up any lost areas of pigment.
The majority of people feel no discomfort whilst others feel just a little. I use anaesthetic creams during all stages of treatment to keep discomfort to a minimum. There's nothing to worry about on this front. Whilst the semi-permanent makeup application is a form of tattooing, it's not as invasive as the standard ink tattooing.
Straight after treatment, the colour pigment will look a little darker by 30-50%. This is to be expected and softens after a few days. The treated areas might also appear dry and flaky but this won't be too noticeable. Again, this is normal as is a slight swelling directly after the procedure. During the healing process you might even notice the makeup tones fade quite considerably but this is temporary. After 4-6 weeks the true colour and result will take on its more permanent appearance.
That's why a second appointment is made once everything has settled down and I can complete any tiny areas that need balancing out or retouching.
This all depends on a variety of factors including your lifestyle, your skin type, environmental factors and simple genetics. In the majority of cases it should last for a minimum of 2 years and anything up to 5 years. Refresher colour boosts every 12-18 months are recommended to keep the desired colour strength maintained.
Semi-permanent makeup benefits many women across all sections of society. The treatment can be very gentle and understated or it can be strong and glamourous, depending on your tastes.
Semi-permanent makeup treatment is suitable for most women (and men). There are some exceptions however. Women with very oily skin or enlarged pores might find the procedure will be ineffective. Certain medical conditions also prevent treatment being allowed. During the initial consultation, all these factors will be discussed and you'll be assessed for your suitability. There are alternatives.
For the length of time semi-permanent makeup lasts, it's a very reasonable investment.
If so, don’t delay, I’ll be more than happy to provide as many answers as you need.
